It's probably kennel cough. This usually is a loud human like cough. MY dog had it once, He was up all night for 4days. Some times a reg human liquid cough serpresent will help but if your dog has a bad case it will need further medical attention. My dog didn't have a very severe case so just cough serpresents worked for him. I would let you vet know that the problem is progressing, and if you find no help there try another vet. Be sure to let your new vet know what med and the dosage your old vet gave to the dog. Good luck.

It is possible that your dog has canine influenza. This illness has a bad cough and even with meds the cough can linger for up to 3 weeks. The meds the vet gave you is to help keep it from developing into pneumonia or other serious complications. Follow your vets directions and continue with the meds. You may want to ask the vet for a stronger cough medicine although it still won't entirely prevent the coughing.
Canine Influenza is going around and it is very contagious.

This sounds like Kennel Cough. It's like a cold in humans. All you can do is wait until it goes away. It should only take a week or two.
Make sure she stays warm and dry and has lots of water.
Sometimes steam helps. Bring her into the bathroom and let the hot water run in the shower. When she breathes in the steam, it makes her breathe easier. Don't get her wet, just let her breathe the steam.
If it doesn't go away after 2 weeks go back to the vet. Have them test for heartworms.

Are the meds being given correctly?
Has the dog been on the meds long enough that she should be showing signs of improvement? The dog could have kennel cough, worms in her lungs or something lodge in the throat??? Call your vet and tell him the dog is not improving.

Did the vet check it for heart worms? With most dogs that is one of the first signs. But I would call the vet and let them know the meds they gave you aren't working.

Did you tell the doctor what it sounds like or just that she's coughing? Maybe he gave you an antitusive when he should have given you an expectorant or something else.

Is it a small breed dog? A lot of the small breeds like chihuahuas have what they call reverse sneezing. It can really sound scary but it is normal for small breeds.
