I have a dog with dry skin and was thinking about using that on the coat but wasn't sure if it would hurt the dog.

Shouldn't hurt. It's mildly bitter, so the dog may not want to lick it anyway. Be aware, though, that aloe vera gel is a mild laxative when taken internally, so be prepared for 'walkies'!

alo vera will do nothing for dry skin. I'm also not sure if dog have allergies alo. Go to a petstore and pick up some oatmeal shampoo (this is gentle on their skin and should help with the dry skin), also get some spray on conditioner, this you can put on after and in between baths to help their dry skin. Try not to bath you dog too often, too much bathing will only agrivate their skin more. Once a month should be sufficiant.
Also, I don't know what you feed you dog but the better foods will help too.

I wouldn't do it without asking a vet's opinion... many aloe vera gels for humans contain alcohol to cool the skin, and an analgesic agent, to help with the pain. I'm not sure whether or not these could harm the dog, but I wouldn't risk it.

I once had a dog that ate an entire aloe vera plant when she was about a year and a half old. She lived to be 14. No, I don't think it will hurt him.

Aloe Vera helps immensely in case you apply it to the 1st actual sign of a burn. although, now that it quite is been 2 days, i can anticipate that it will alleviate a number of the soreness, yet you're able to have quite a few greater days of soreness. If the soreness gets too extreme -- silvadene cream is used for burns and it will help. yet quite after 2 days, you need to could desire to attend it out. Sorry.
