What is an effective way to drain most if not all of the fat off of cooked ground beef? I always manage to have too much left when I am done draining my ground beef.

I generally put the meat in a strainer with a container underneath it and puch down on the meat with a spatula or spoon, but I can never get all of the fat out.

You will NEVER get all the fat out of ground beef no matter how hard you try.

One girl i know puts the beef in a sifter, and runs water over it - however grease and water don't mix - but apparntly that's what she does to minimize the fat content. She runs it under water a few times.

Buy extra lean ground beef, but there's not too much you can do. If you're that worried about fat contant, don't cook w/ beef. But it's all about moderation.. enjoy your favorite foods, don't OVERindulge in your favorite foods.

Put it in a strainer, press it down with a cooking spoon, spatula, or whatever... then once you've done that, do it again but with a paper towel around the bottom of the strainer. Any extra fat will be soaked by the paper towel. You might have to repeat the paper towel part a few times.

But the best way to not have fatty beef... buy soy beef.

Use a George Foreman grill. It may be timely to cook, but all the fat is drained into a deep saucer at the bottom. When you're cooking the ground beef make sure to Squeeze the grill down to get more fat (grease) out of the beef. Or, you can take a spatula and push the meat down.

I use a strainer. There's really no way to get rid of all the fat, and besides if you did, the gr. beef would be dry. Just don't pour the fat down the sink. Put in a cup or bowl and throw in the garbage. It's very bad for drains!

You aren't ever going to get out all the fat. I would suggest upgrading the meat that you buy. If you usually buy ground chuck upgrade to ground sirloin, there is less fat in the slightly more expensive meats. It is worth the few cents price difference. I think that if using a strainer doesn't get out enough... you might be sending your standards slightly high... it isn't all fat anywho, some of it is just juice. And, noone wants dry hamburger.

Hope this helps at least a little!

i pour the ground beef into a strainer with an empty pot underneath and then use a spatula to squeeze all of the fat out.

The best way I have found is to boil ground beef like you would pasta. Drain it and rinse it in a strainer, then brown it with your onions or whatever in a skillet. No one I've ever cooked has not liked it, they enjoyed the non-greasy meal.

As fat swims on top, carefully pour the liquid off into another container and stop when the fat is gone. You can recover the liquid under the fat and add it back in if you wish. There are special gravy boats with their draining spout access down low, so the fat stays on top and doesn't get poured out.
You could accomplish that trick with some teapots

After browning the meat well, put it through a strainer, if you want to remove even more of the fat rinse off the meat after you strain it.
