Have you ever seen her actually do it? If not, some...pieces of the stuff might be (gross) falling off her...behind. If you did see her do it, she might need a bigger litterbox or a little more tutoring on where to do it. If catch her pooping outside the litterbox simply pick her up and put her in it. I did this to my cat for a couple of days, (same problem, only he COMPLETELY ignored his litterbox) and after a while he began doing his bussiness there. Be patient, and praise her if she does what she's supposed too. Cats are like children, after all.

My oldest cat does this, too - but only when I don't manage to get the litter box scooped before he has to poop. He's extremely picky about it, and if there's even a small deposit already there, he won't go in it. If I keep it cleaned out all the time, he will use it to poop.

I had the same situation. It is possible your cat could be sick and you don't know it. Nothing serious, but you probably need to take her to the vet. I have a cat that did that and she had a viral intestinal infection. My vet said that if there is something wrong such as that or a uti they don't want it in their box and will go outside the box. My cat's poop smelled extremely stong and bad as well, excessively nearly made me gag. Best of luck

Try buying another litter box, put different litter in it to see if she will use it. My cat has 2 boxes to choose from too. One is hooded, one is not. Both have clumping litter in it.

Well....
- Litter box might need to be cleaned
- Litter box might not be big enough
- Kitty may not like what you are using for litter. You could try switching kitty litter brands, or use sand.

maybe you should think about getting a covered litter box. The box may not be big enough for your cat.

Maybe because she doesn't like the box. Set your cat down in the box for a few minutes and let her scratch at it.

some cat's don't like pooping on sand because it might be too small, the sand has some smell, the sand is too wet for the cat to step inside of it again, your cat is used to it by now, or because it doesn't like pooping in a box of sand.

Lack of depth perception. Consider kitty contacts.
