A guy at work had it and I was wondering, especially since I work at a library and we are always handing stuff to each other and running into each other's departments looking for things. I would really hate to catch it...

Yes, it can be contagious. However, when my son was young, he had it and no one else in the household caught it from him. There is no need to worry. If you do begin to show signs of it, an antibiotic will cure it in fairly quick order.

Scarlet fever is a form of Strep throat. The tell tale sign is you get a scarlet rash which is not normal with strep. My daughter's was under her pantie line. I thought she just had a reaction the the antibiotic. I nearly fell over when the doctor told me that is was scarlet fever. A hundred years ago she more than likely would have died. Now we just take an antibiotic and suck on Popsicles. It is extremely important that you go on an antibiotic ASAP if you have strep. And yes it is contagious, very contagious.
