See one of my best friends has had two kids, she had them both when she was VERY young (16 & 18) Now she is very over weight (she is 24 now) and she is almost 100 pounds over weight for her height. Well we have decided to be work out buddies, because I need someone to motivate me to go to the gym and vice versa. Only she is depressed because her stomache is very saggy! and I have never had a baby so I dont know how to help her feel better about her self to keep her motivated to keep working out with me...will her stomache be able to get back to normal? It hangs down really low...what excersizes can I suggest for her to get it tigher lookn?

First of all having children is not the reason why your freind is over weight.

Having children is a normal thing and if she gained more than 25 lbs during her pregnancies then she overate, or was not keeping track of her weight.

She may have been overweight when she got pregnant as well, I don't want you to think that getting pregnant is the cause of obesity it is not.

Good eating habits, no junk food, and good posture are important, you can help yourselves from becoming fat by cutting back on the size of portions at mealtime, snacking between meals should be healthy like an apple or an orange, drink plenty of water, drinking a glass of water before a meal will help with the feeling of being full without consuming great amounts.

For her stomach I would recommend that she begins by holding her stomach in, and not let it hang out, I don't know if you know what I mean, you can do this without holding your breath and it greatly improves the posture as well. At first it is difficult to remember to do so but with diligence it becomes easier and this also makes your back stronger.

It isn't how much you exercise but the quality of exercise, try and rent a pilates tape and learn those techniques, these are very helpful. Good luck and I congratulate you on helping one another.

Well, you are actually looking at 2 differant problems,. First she can tighten up her stomache muscles and the best way is doing crunches. Also for a better effect, keep your shoulders and feet about 6" of the floor and hold for 10 seconds at a time, do about 10 to start and work at adding 1 or 2 every few days. Now the second problem, that sag,,Is it lose skin? That is the way you make it sound, sorry but there is no way to pull it all back into shape without surgery..
Also, if you do squats , positioning your feet far apart and then spreading them a little farther apart and then tip toe and do some more. This will work the legs, butt , stomache and back!!!
Push ups will work, arms, back, stomache and breast..
These 3 exercises will work your body top to bottom!
The best way you can hep is positive reinforcement! And shopping at thrift stores until the goal weight and size is accomplished! That way you can help her pick out clothes that shows her loss and hides the flaws (we all have them). But most of all, do just what you are doing now..Be her friend!
I will keep you both in my prayers. Be Blessed! Rev.Susan
