It was not illegal to ride in the open bed of a pick up truck, and that was so much fun. Even sitting on the wheel humps.

Garanimals Clothing with the Mix and Match Tags....

Toughskins Jeans from Sears. I swear, you couldnt bend your knees in those things. They were made out of recycled steel belted tires or something.

Atari 2600 Cartridges, Coleco Vision or Game cartridges in general....

Shogun Warriors.... They were big honkin' Robots from Japan that could shoot a boat load of tiny little missles, and sometimes kids would choke on them when they were stupid enough to fire them into their mouths. I can remember a Battlestar Galactica Viper from the late 70's by Mattel that caused a kid to choke, and caused a massive recall/send in the missle and get a free Hot Wheels Car.

A Green Machine or any PEDAL POWERED ride on toy, not these battery powered Power Wheels ride alongs.

Betamax Video Tapes, The BIG Record Sized Laser Discs....
The Commodore Vic 20 and Commordore 64 Revolution....
Cassette Tape Drives....
5 1/4 inch Floppy Disks, and even 3 1/2 inch Floppy Disks now a days....

Dot Matrix Printers with the fly wheel paper on the side.... I cant think of anyone outside of a couple of old businesses that still use those.

Speak and Spell, Speak and Read, Speak and Math....

When "Honey Smacks" were originally called "Sugar Smacks", and Sugar Bear's cereal wasnt "Super Golden Crisp".... but "Super SUGAR Crisp".

Mayor McCheese, That Big Mac Cop who carried a Billy Club, The Fry Guys, The Original looking Hamburglar and Grimmace, PLUS Grimmace's Uncle who only showed up during St. Patrick's Day.... "Uncle O'Grimmacy"

That talking Teddy Bear Teddy Ruxpin and his pal Grubby.

When you had MORE than 8 choices of channels on your TV, that was REALLY something.... ESPECIALLY if you had HBO.

When a pack of Baseball Cards cost less than 50 cents....

45 and 78 rpm records, black and whiteT.V. when we finally got one,and where you had to chose from three stations, watching Tales of wells Fargo and Rin tin tin, Black Beauty, Johnny Weismeller as Tarzan, The original Mickey Mouse club with Annette Funicello, Howdy Doody, Sugarfoot. Being able to sleep out side with no fear of human predators. Wringer washers, hanging clothes on the clothes line smelled so awesome and clean, mom making homemade bread and cookies instead of store bought. Dad making baking powder biscuits and pancakes from scratch. Very little frozen tv dinners or quick to make foods. No Nikes, our tennis shoes was used for running, playing, hiking and whatever else we needed them for, there wasn't a different kind for every sport on the planet. Wearing hand me down clothes, that wasn't a $100.00 outfit, they were a lot cheaper and better made. Clothes made by their mothers. Girls did not wear pants to school. And people had more respect toward each other and especially the elderly.
Parents weren't afraid to punish their kids by spanking them for fear that child services would get them for abuse.
Saying the Pledge of Alliagence to the Flag before we started classes. Saying prayers in the auditorium before an assembly or any other function. People respected what others believed and didn't try to shove their beliefs down others throats.
Wetsy Betsy, a doll that if you put water in her, you had to change her diaper.
Bikes, no mountain or racing bikes, just regular pedal bikes.
Roller skates, not roller blades.
The day Pres. J. F. Kennedy was shot, the effect it had on the nation, even me in 8th grade.

Coffee pots that were put on the stove, not electric ones.

Red Rover, Simon says, Hop scotch, jump rope, dolls, before there was Barbie.

Metal playgrounds during the summer.... every time you went down the slide you got 3rd degree burns... and the monkey bars were super hot but you had to climb all the way across because it was an 8 foot drop down to the cement below.

"Weird" Al Yankovic

Memorizing the song "It's the End of the World as we Know It"

Riding in the back of a station wagon, facing the cars behind.

Going out to play with no guardian. How to use their imagination. How to cook from scratch. Jumping into a pile of fresh loose hay. Fishing with a piece of string. Returning the carriage on a typewriter. Lawrence Welk, Ed Sullivan, Red Skelton, I Love Luce, Micky Mouse Club, Tom and Jerry cartoons. Writing a letter. Sending a Thank You card. Growing tadpoles. the list is endless.

Eight track tapes, LPs, 45s, getting the strap at school, getting the strap at home, a cash register where the numbers had to be punched in, black and white tv, no remote control for tv, being able to go to Saturday afternoon movies with Coke caps, individual pop in glass bottles... there's lots. My son is 15 and is amazed at times when things come up...

Being able to play outside without the worry of being abducted or hurt in anyway. Lord knows, my son will never be able to get to do this in our neighborhood (lots of gangs nearby). Where we live, the streets are narrow and people constantly run the stop signs. I've almost been hit many times. :( That was one of the best parts of my childhood, playing with the neighborhood kids all day; carefree!!!

8 track tapes, black and white TV, no TV. Being able to go to sleep at night with your doors unlocked. The thrill of having a weekly or bi monthly treat.( which was really appreciated and looked forward to. ) Kids riding bicycles and walking everywhere. Spankings!!! There are so many things, it saddens me.
