I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in May 2005. I was 31 and had two kids, ages 3 and 6. I had a modified radical mastectomy, chemo, and radiation. In August my doctors declared me well enough to have rotational TRAM flap reconstruction. I've gone back to work, and while I admit to being tired, I've never been more thankful in my life. Stage III cancer can go either way, I'm sorry to say, but tell your daughter to choose to live. I did and I'm still here. A positive attitude can go a long way when combined with treatment.

First, a comment on staging to another responder. Stage 2 cancer does NOT always mean the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes . I had stage 2 breast cancer 16 years ago and was graded that way simply because the tumor was more than 2cc. I had no lymph node involvement.
TnRabbit-how do you know her mass is stage 3 if there has been no biopsy or surgery yet? Did a doctor tell you that? Clear diagnosis of any supicious lump can only be made by surgery and then the stage is determined by the pathologist.
If the worst happens and your daughter has breast cancer, there are many successful treatments today, even more than when I became a survivor 16 years ago.

I know it's hard to not go into panic mode at this point, so I won't even tell you not to worry until you need to. My motto since my diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago is hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I was 29 years old and 8 months pregnant and had an 18 month old daughter when I was diagnosed. I had 3 tumors, the largest being 4cm. Since then I have done chemo, radiation, double mastectomy, TRAM reconstruction, a year of Herceptin and I have 3 more years of Tamoxifen. Not to mention the scares in between. I know you are so worried, but what you can do for your daughter right now is just be there. Follow her lead and do what you can to help, but don't forget to take care of yourself in the process.

I will be think and praying for you guys.

I'm sorry you say they tell you it is stage 3, but they don't know if it's cancer? Staging is a way they describe the progression of cancer. I had stage 2 breast cancer 2 years ago (Stage 2 means it has spread to the lymph nodes).

This is a scary situation for you...but there isn't much you can do until the surgery is done and they can test the tissues for cancerous cells. Either way, be there to support you daughter. They have come a long way with treatment these days, and even if it is cancer, if they can remove the affected tissues, and she undergoes chemo/radiation, she can live a long a healthy life. My mom had breast cancer 10 years ago, had chemo, radiation, and is doing great. Just be there to support your daughter and grandson no matter what!

we do not comprehend the reason. If we did, we'd want to be ready to prevent it and take care of it extra constructive. symptoms are uncommon. I had a pink rash present from the tumor causing tissue ameliorations. The lump replaced into particularly large yet my document not in any respect detected it. No concerns notwithstanding; this is totally treatable, advantageous now.
