My child is nearly 4 years. His words are not clear yet. He uses only few sentences. Sometimes, he has a strange look on his face. All the time he is runnig doing cazy things with his face. I am concerned. Sometimes he tries to hit his baby sister. Is there a test or a site I can use to measure his Intelligence?

Make a diary of his behavior that is bothering you and take it to the doctor. There are soooo many things that it could be - but then again he could just be a late bloomer. Personally it sounds like it could be sensory or autistic. I am a mother of a ten year old asperger (autisic type) child. It doesn't have to be as scary as your making it. There are checklists of behaviors and milestones that all children should be at at different ages and the person who knows those ages best should be the doc. If your not sure about their answers or still don't feel convinced go for second and third opinions. Follow your gut feeling. good for you for recongising that something could be wrong. Early intervention, no matter what it is, is important.

I dont think its an intelligence issue. Most four year olds do that. However you might want to have his speech and hearing checked. you can usually get a referal from your pediatrician for a Ear nose and throat doc to do an audiology test, and then to speech therapist usually at a local school district or head start. As for hitting his little sister, you might have some emotianl issues there. Some children don't know how to adjust from being an only child to having siblings. A simple mommy and me play group ar something where you spend one on one time with just him would be good.

h1s_one_and only's answer is quite correct - if you do not have a pede doc or if money is a question use the well baby clinic of a large teaching hospital. You will have to wait a bit but they charge based on means and you will get the best care available in your area. If the charges are still too high then blow them off. The child is more important than your credit. Most hospitals if you work with them will write it off as bad debt anyway and use it on their taxes. Just do not deny yourself or your child medical care.

You should talk to your health-care provider about your son. I would demand a hearing TEST (not a screen) by an audiologist. If your son is having difficulty hearing, he may be straining to hear (making faces) and easily frustrated(hitting). It could be a simple as that. If it is not his hearing, your health-care provider can give better guidance. The earlier you can get treatment for your son the better.

Take him to his pediatrician and express your concerns on wanting him to be tested for abnormalities. I had my ped tell me that my son was fine at 3 and all the way until he was 7 y/o. My son was diagnosed with Friedreichs Ataxia (Muscular Dystrophy) 7/27/03. Proving that I was right all along. Trust your gut and if it says somethings not right chances are you are the one who is right. Take care and hopefully they will figure out whats going on with your son. My son used to run around and do crazy things. My son has ADHD and Bipolar. Yours could have one of those or he could have something else. Go to a doctor and ask him/her if everything is ok
