I teach in a NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL
As you know, there has been a school shooting every other week this month (including the Amish schoolhouse and the one's in Canada).
I've decided, I'm not going to get caught out there.
what is a good body armor and pistol combination that I can buy?
I need body armor that's light and can stand up to both knife attacks and at least 9mm rounds.
I also need a good suggestion for a small concealable pistol - probably in 9mm or .45 cal - something that has enough stopping power to put a 175 pound student out of commission.
Is there a body armor type that won't show through a typical collarless shirt?

Kevlar helmet and vest with a FN 5/7. That'll even the odds.

Put on the vest if you want, but forget the pistol. That's not going to happen (and you know it). Your school system would never accept the liability, any more than the airlines have. They have fought tooth and nail against arming the flight deck. If you're lucky, you might get a guard service, just like the airlines got some armed air marshals, so the liability will lie elsewhere.
Better learn to talk to the students, and listen to them. They often know when something is going on before something bad happens.

Ha, you teach in lovely NewYorkShity, ain't this city great, NOT, Go buy yourself a Flak vest ,helmet and a H&K .357 with a 15 round magazine. And a **** load of bullets. I hope I don't have to see you under bad circumstances. Go to the Police HQ in Manhattan, and tell the pistol section you need a permit packet, if you tell them your job they might give you one on the spot . Good Luck!

i know that they r not going to allow guns in school it is crazy out here kids don't care they all want to be gangsters bet is raising half of them wacth the (wire on hbo ) get u a bulletproof vest and if something jump off run 4 the hills everyman 4 themself this is 2006 about to be 07 things have changed better think about you and yours cause nobody else is

There are a lot of types of body armor, do an internet search.
I like the Glock 10MM. It's small enough to be concealed and heavy enough to stop even a cracked out student.

each and every college district instruments its very own standards on what's nice dresses and visual attraction for its instructors. on the three college districts I truthfully have worked for in Illinois, seen tattoos could preclude you from being employed as could piercings (to boot ears on women). I truthfully have seen some instructors around the rustic with piercings and tattoos even with the incontrovertible fact that. those instructors have regularly been from inner city faculties. Now, i think of that's frequently the exception. My advice: in case you prefer a tattoo, get it able which you would be able to truthfully conceal in case you are able to desire to for employment.

I really doubt you will be allowed to carry a gun in the school and one day of wearing a vest under a shirt & tie in the summer will be sooo hot you will stop wearing it. It will be very hard to hide the vest unless you wear baggy shirts.

And who is to say that you are not a terrorist seeking information? Everyone who has answered your question positivly is part of the reason we have so many problems like this!
Your inquiry will likely be forwarded to the CIA / FBI and local agencies. If you were really a teacher, you would not be asking such things here. You would be smart enough to know the correct answer(s).

Check the laws of your area before doing any of this. You wouldn't want to be arrested. Where i am you're not allowed to carry a pistol unless you're going to or coming from a shooting range. CHECH YOUR LAWS.

Pistol: candy bars
Make those kids see you as a human being and they'll appreciate you. Walk into the classroom with that arrogance and you're game
