It can't. You must have the case for the cd or the sticker on the computer.

XP CD's do not have any information about the CD key on them, unless physically printed on the label (I've never seen that done, however). If you are installing on a machine from a manufacturer like dell or hp, there should be a sticker somewhere on the machine itself with the CD key and windows version on it.

You need to put the CD in the microwave for about 3 seconds to "soften" it up. Then you can get down to the lower levels of windows and locate it there. It will be visible with good near-sighted vision, or you can use a magnifying glass. Look right around the edge. DON'T put the CD in the microwave for more than 3 seconds... you don't want to hurt it.

The XP key is not on the CD! The CD deciphers a pattern in the key you give it and deems it approved if the pattern matches.
