Perhaps it's your cats ritural before going to bed. He figures you're in the bathroom right before you go to bed and he should too. Perhaps he just enjoys being part of YOUR nightly ritural. It's hard to say....but it's not a bad thing. Enjoy !

There are a number of possible reasons for this cat's behavior. Since it is mostly when you are brushing your teeth etc, it is most likely to be the echo sound coming from the pipes from your running water in another basin.
There are some factors that can also cause this behavior, such as the tub is usually cooler, there are sometimes spiders and insects that disappear down the drain or up the spout, and the cat may be hunting.
Most likely it is the sounds in the pipes which would echo in the tub and possibly make the cat think it is coming from the tap itself.

okay first thing with cats is that there unlike dogs where we are the masters with them they are the parents and we are the kids.So he might just be watching you. Also the bath tub is a nice and cool place to lay down every cat i have had have done this or have lain down in the bath room sink I even had some of them who would sit on the side while I took a bath. As for staring at the tap try turning it on so it is a trikle he might just want some. I had a cat who wouldn't drink out of her water dish but would out of the sink so I hope that helps.

I had a cat do that. She would always get in the bath with no water in it. I discovered that she preferred to drink the water out of the bath instead of her bowl. So turn the water on just a little bit and see if that is what your cat wants. Don't turn it on where it will scare your cat. Just more like a dribble.

My two do the same thing, just wanting to watch, see what everyone is doing in the "little room" and let's face it, the porcelain on the tub stays colder than anywhere in the house. Plus my two like a small stream of water from the tub because it is colder and fresher than a bowl of water. Must be a pretty common thing, I want my alone time, but bedtime, I want to be able to sleep on the bed too, go figure, at least they have personalities.

OMG, you're kidding, one of our cats does the same, he will run into the bathroom when I go in, and will head straight into the shower while I brush my teeth etc. I have to shoo him away if I need to turn on the water - he doesn't want to leave. He will also often sleep in the bathroom. I thought he was just a freak kitty! I have no idea what the attraction is. (We have AC in the house, so it's not like it's very warm at our place.)

I believe you, I have two cats. One of which sits in the sink and takes up the enitire bowl. She she stares at the tap it mean that she wants me to turn the water on, just a little bit though. She like to drink the fresh falling water, and play with it a little. Maybe your cat wants the same. Plus, the bathtub probably feels good to him?

Bentele,
My cat does the same thing. Sometime she even rolls around in the tub. I think that she likes the cool clean feel. In the morning before I hop in the shower she likes to have the water turned on to a trickle so she can "have a drink" before I get in there.
Hope this helps!

My cats will sleep in the bath tub and the sink. I have 4 cats and 2 of them love for me to turn the faucets on, a dribble, and they will drink the water. My one cat will jump in the bath tub with me while I am taking a bath. He loves the water. You have a cat and we cannot question why they do things, the world will always revolve around cats and we are to do their bidding. Enjoy your cat KG

I had a cat that used to do this. When I would look for him i would just find him in the bathtup relaxing in the dark. I determined that cats like peace and in the bathroom there is not a lot of traffic and the tub is like a hideout. Its comfortable for them and unless you are right up on the tub you are not going to notice them right away. In short, they like the quiet, the cool temp, and if you have one of those glass ceilings (I forget what they are called) they can see the moon and stars when they can't get outside.

Just a waiting area until you guys settle in for the night. Many pets find structure as we do in our daily lives likes brushing our teeth before going to bed or how we even have a designated waiting area in restaurants and even in our homes! Cats are cool.
