Does it literally mean "cleaning by three"?

I know what a menage a troix IS, I just want the literal translation of the term, please.

"Menage" is closer to "household" or "combination" than it is to "cleaning".
Therefore the term "menage a troix" literally means "combination of three" or "household of three", not "cleaning of three". Of course, if your "menage a troix" took place in the tub or shower...

Normally a "household" consists of two people, running a household. A ménage à trois means that a third person joins that household, literally a "household by three", but in this case not for the daily chores. Sacerdotisa, você sabe a que me refiro.

Menage refers also to the married couple ,or the common law couple. the closest translation is :household. thus menage a trois..........
