Based on your experience, what are some makes/models that will be reliable? I'm already comfortable with Honda and Toyota - anybody like a different brand?

i would buy a toyota & not worry about the other makes & model's. I have had toyota's & Lexus since 1976 & have not had a problem. But my wife had had good luck with Mazda also.

I personally got a used 94 Ford Taurus for $2,500.00 that had 110,000 miles on it in 1997, and drove it for another 5 years and a total mileage of 230,000 miles! Most Tuarus vehicles up to the 2001 year model were featured in the Consumer reports "best buy" category for price vs reliability, features and comfort. Since these cars have a great track record for handling long mileages well, they make a good risk for the under $4000.00 category.

Yeah DO NOT buy a Taurus. Toyotas are a good buy and this is coming from an American car lover. And an ASE Master Mechanic
