Robert Byrd (Democrat from West Virginia). He is the longest serving Senator in the Senate. His record since that regrettable time has been much more both supportive of civil rights and championing of constitutional adherence. He's also a great orator. I'm glad he reversed tracks on the KKK. He's been an advocate for many beneficial causes since then.

Robert Byrd - so are you insinuating that all Democrats support the Klan? You need to remember that during and after the Civil War, Democrat ideals were more akin to the Repulican ideals of today. Some Southerners still held to those ideals well into the 20th century. Even as far into the 20th century as the 1960's.
