Depends on age and the child. My son is 18mo and since I'm up at 6am every am, I put him to bed at 8. My daughter is 9 and she would sleep for 12 hours every night if she could: she goes to bed at 9 and wakes up at 630am. I think the best thing to do when determining a bedtime for your child is to make sure that they are getting at least 9-10 hours of sleep a night. If they seem groggy and overly sleepy in the am make the bedtime earlier or if they are waking up really early, extend the bedtime a little. Take a look at this site it is very helpful

My 10 year old son has a bedtime of 9pm. He gets up anywhere between 6:30 and 7 am on the weekdays for school. Most kids need 9 to 10 hours of sleep every night, at the very least.

Depends on the age of the child. My 3 boys ages 6,4,and almost 3 go to bed between 8:00 and 8:30 pm and wake up at 7:00am and my 10 month old daughter goes to bed between 8:00 and 10:00pm and wakesd up at 7:00am also. But then the 2 younger boys and my daughter also take a 2 hour nap during the day.

Different kids need different amounts of sleep to function. If your kid is tired or sluggish and has a difficult time waking up in the morning make the bedtime earlier.

I would say 8:00 because kids need sleep if they don't sleep until ten they won't want to get up in the morning but when they sleep at 8:00 they wake up at 7:00 or 6:30

my three grand-daughters (ages: 9y, 6y, 5y) have curfew at 8pm with bedtime at 9pm.
sun-thu: when my kids were young, they had the same curfew and bed time (8pm curfew with bedtime at 9pm).
then when they were in...
jr high, it was 9 curfew and 10 bedtime.
sr high, it was 10 curfew and 11 bedtime.
fri & sat or holiday: curfews were the same...with the same bedtime hour, except we would call this jammy nite, so they could do what they wanted as long as they were ready for bed and in their rooms. without being loud of course. either, till they fell asleep or at the most, lights out and tv/music off at midnight.
like us parents we have our special times. we thought that it was only fair that the kids did too. jammy nite was their special time. they would watch tv, videos, or play music, read, or have jammy parties by having friends over. with pizza and soda, munchies, whatever. (not forgetting that when friends did stay over, them and ours did the clean up the next morning, and all friends had to be off to their own homes by noon. if our kids stayed over at someone elses house, they had to be home by noon the next day, and help out there as well. all of us parents were happy.)
this worked out very well for us.
