I think that World War III was the Cold War. It was a worldwide conflict, and in places, there were proxy wars fought between Communist nations and Free world nations.

I think that the Global War on Terror is World War IV. It is being fought on a worldwide scale, and like the Cold War, has proxies as well.

It could erupt even further with either North Korea or Iran having a nuclear option, should they decide to use it.

At any given time in history, there are numerous wars and conflicts going on. Currently there are 40+/- conflicts in the world. The only time the WORLD WAR status is attibuted to a war is when the superpowers square off on opposite sides in open declarations of war. We are far from that scenario, altho i agree the spark is there to ignite a larger conflagaration. But for now, just think regional conflicts, proxy wars, brinksmanship and disagreements between rump states.

When the US, Russia and/or China square, then come back and we'll talk WW III. The history books haven't declared the Cold War as WWIII or the current war on terror as WWIV. You'll know when WWIII hits, that burst of EMP will be your first warning....

As Einstein is often quoted as saying, WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones....

Historically, World War Three has already happened. We have to go back to the 18th century to understand that people then, referred to the Napoleonic Wars as a World War. So, in real terms, WW-One is the Napoleonic Wars, WW-Two [one hundred years later] otherwise the Great War and WW-Three is the one from c1939-45 UK or c1941-45 USA.

Maybe not WW3, but we are heading into a very dangerous time, I think. We have North Korea, with nuclear capabilities, and Iran on the verge of obtaining nuclear capabilities. I don't see many western countries being at risk of direct military attacks, however the risk to Japan and South Korea from North Korea, and Isreal from Iran, is highly likely. I think that should a strike happen in either region, then we are venturing down a path with an unknown ending. To be honest, it frightens the hell out of me, but not as much as Global warming. I think that is a bigger time bomb to be sitting on than the threat of nuclear war.

Was Iraq world war 3? Could have been, enough deaths and enough involvement! Or perhaps Lebanon although not as big. Well, might get another war soon...Korea.. .then perhaps Iran...then perhaps war on someone else America doesn't like.

Involving the UK? Possibly if we're involved in policing actions however if you mean "Will open warfare come to us" then I doubt it.
Britain is classed as 2nd or 4th in the worldpower states for military capability (dependant on source) and any country with the exception of the USA and possibly Russia or coalition of countries would be suicidal if they took us on.
I can see a rise in terror attacks here and abroad, and I can see the bleak, authoritatian future forecast in films like Children of men and V for Vendetta coming true.

I can also see more money being diverted from Welfare/Education into the police and military and a strengthening of our borders as well as increases in our "power projection". ie more troops, more ships, more tanks and most importantly more nukes.

10-15 years time this country will become a police or garrison state, and i fear in the world to come, it's the only way we will survive.

Depends what you mean by WW III if you are talking about a world wide nuclear exchange causing megadeaths in a short period of time - no not likely. If you are talking about an increasing level of violence that affects a higher number of the worlds population every year and that is fueled by superstition - yes I am afraid so.

It's already starting, soon N Korea will attack Japan, Iran will begin an invasion of Iraq, and we will be caught in the middle of a war again. We will be drained this time, and there will be nuclear attacks on both sides. Be prepared for a draft, I suspect by this time next year we will be fully engaged.
