That depends on how much creative control they have as a writer on their show.

When a comedian who does stand up, he usually writes the jokes him or herself. On a sitcom they have a staff of writers who tell the comedians what is funny and what jokes they use.

Plus when a stand-up is funny, you have to remember that he is only on once in awhile. On a sitcom they are on every day or every week and you expect that same constant funniness and it just doesn't happen.

Even Seinfeld was plenty un-funny on some of his shows.
