I've had it done 3 times and each time it was in my hand. By the way, there's this creme that you can get called Emla which makes it hurt A LOT less!

It is really based on where they locate a good vein to start the IV. The top of the hand is where they try to put it but sometimes it doesnt always work out that way. Then they try the arm. It all depends on your veins.

Depends, as explained by many above. If you prefer one site to another, just ask if they can use that site. If you have a good vein, I'm sure they'd try to use it. Although, the top of the hand is more "out of the way" from the area where they have to stand and work.

the standard protocol for all punctures is to start at the extremities and work your way up, meaning the hand is usually the first place to stick, this is true with ivs and abgs

most of the time they put it in the top of your hand. this way isnt as painful.
