Surprise! More Questions for Athiests & Agnostics?

Question

As some of you who've already answered my questions today can tell (thank you, btw), I'm really grappling with the whole Athiesm thing. I realized recently that I haven't really taken the time to understand why you believe the way you do. And so, I'm taking the time. I'm asking.

Would it be fair to say that many of you are more opposed to religion & religious dogma than to God?

Let me put it to you this way: Think of the coolest place you've ever been with the least amount of intervention of man. Or perhaps think of a living creature in nature, say, a deer, a wolf, or say dolphins, or even a beloved pet. Or perhaps think of the person who's meant the most to you, who, without question, has contributed beneficially to your life.

Now scrape everything you've ever heard about God & let's make it bear-bones creation & Creator. If it were to become blaringly evident that this creation is merely a reflection of this Creator, would you still be opposed to such a one?

I am not opposed to the idea of any God any more than I am opposed to the character of Yosarian in "Catch 22"... I just don't think there is evidence to support the existence of either. Were there evidence of any God, I would modify my beliefs to incorporate it, but my beliefs can only be the sum total of what has been evidenced to me...

In other words: were there any evidence that any of this was the result of any superior being, I would modify my stance with regard to the existence of a superior being. That still doesn't tell me which one, though...

I'm not "opposed" to God, I just don't see why the Christian God is any more believable than the gods that the Ancient Greeks believed in, or the other gods that millions of other people believe in. If someone could one day explain to me why the Christian God exists and all the other gods don't, then I'll have no problem admitting that I was wrong all this time. But so far, no one has been able to convince me.

The "just look at the intricate design of the universe!" argument doesn't convince me. How do you know which god did the designing? How do you know that it wasn't MULTIPLE gods that did the designing? It's questions like that that keep me from believing in one god in particular over all the rest.

A nice hypothetical question but totally irrelevant. You could just as easily ask if a space ship landed on earth and claimed they were coming back to see how their creation turned out. Which is probably more believable, more likely, and more feasible than any of the current religious notions.

I'd love to believe. But I've never seen one shred of REAL evidence. Until I do, I'm not buying in. And I hold religion responsible for most of the suffering in the world. It's certainly not the fault of some mythical god.

I wouldn't say I'm opposed to deities, more indifferent. Since I see and equal lack of proof for each side of the debate I'm more of a wait and see type. That has nothing to do with religious dogma; although, I can say I'm not too fond of that.

Not really, it's god.

If god made everything beautiful and good and there were nothing ugly or corrupt in the world, sure he'd be great. No problem.

But I don't quite see the point. The world is clearly not like that.

let me ask you this, i know there is a god but i dont put limits on him as alot of christians do, do you think god decided just one day out of the blue to make people, i mean god has been around forever meaning eternity but all of a sudden from christian belief god about 10 to 20 thousand years ago decided to make people,i would find it extremly hard to believe that a god who has been around an eternity just one day thought about making people, because if that is true then his thinking is limited, i think he made alot of ther people elsewhere and we just are not supposed to know about it,, what do you think
