Usually motivation. Permanent weight loss can be a lifestyle change for some people, it might mean not going out to eat 4 times a week anymore. If you really are motivated to lose the weight and keep it off, then it helps so much more.

That's not always that easy. It's not only done with less eating. Some overweight people are eating because of problems caused by loneliness , psychological problems ,and of course because of health problems.
You have to see everybody as an individual. If you're not overweight it might be hard for you to understand why people are overweight.
It's not always easy just to drop a few pounds.

I was overweight myself through an illness, and it was very hard to get back to my normal weight . But I had real friends who were helping me.
Not to be alone sometimes can make it a lot easier !!!

i'm not completely unhappy, and i'm not too overweight, by my standards, but i can stand to drop a few pounds. my problem is food. it's almost like an addiction...i have to have something chocolate everyday. and soda. i'm doing good so far with cutting all that out, but it's still a struggle. it's kind of like a drug addict. i watch intervention, and on there was this guy that hated that he did drugs and always kicked himself for doing it, but he still did it. that may not be true for every one, but it is for me. plus, i suffer from severe depression (yes, i was diagnosed) and have 2 kids and just don't have the energy to change my habits. i'm hoping that once i get back on my meds that it will help, but you never know/

Hmmm....asked by someone who's obviously never had a weight problem.

How many millions of people in this society are overweight? If you think it's SOOOO easy to just doit, do you really think millions would consciously choose to be fat? Do you think that's a fun and happy way to be. No! It's not! There is a multi-billion dollar fitness, diet and cosmetic industry built solely around assisting the obesity problem. And still, people are obese.

But I guess little ole you just has the answer to all our problems right? Grow up!

Yes, I think people have a choice, and they could lose the weight if they effectively tried. The best advice is eat less and exercise more. If you cannot put forth the effort to change, then it shows that you really do not want to change.

If you are putting forth the effort, and change is not coming then you have my sympathy. But, actions always speak louder than words.

I do think that they can try harder. Many people want to eat whatever they want and don't want to excercise. We are a lazy nation.
