My guess is she's "discovered" water is more than a thirst quencher! Retrievers are water dogs, they were breed to retrieve game foul for hunters. I think her water play is nature doing what it does best. Instinct! Enjoy!!!

She is just having some fun and acting like a daft kid that's all, our golden retriever did that when she was a puppy and when its hot during the summer she still does it occasionally now, retrievers just love water and will do anything and everything to get their paws wet, wait until she is dragging your through puddles all the time in the rain and even sitting in them, as old as my retriever is she still thinks its a great game to play and sit in puddles.

Golden Retrievers like Labs love the water. We have a Golden Retriever. We have a small child's wading pool outside for him. He loves it. He just wants to play in the water.

She's discovered water!!! My youngest Golden sits and then rolls about in the local stream. She is a very pale Golden but comes back from her walks a very black Golden!!! They love water - like many of the other respondents, I too have a paddling pool for my 2 for the summer. They love it. I replace it every year cos they end up making holes in the bottom with their claws.
If you are not near a beach, ask if your vet knows of a local dog swimming pool or read the classifieds in a dog magazine.

My Golden Retriever used to put his head in his water bowl and blow bubbles then tip it all over the floor and roll around in the puddles. This was because he LOVES water. He swims really well and dives into water whenever it is available!!
We had to teach him not to play with his water bowl because apart from making loads of mess he used to waste all his water and then have nothing to drink when we went out.
A few tips about letting her get used to water:
Don't take your puppy for a swim yet - she is too young. Wait until she is about 5 months and then start introducing her to bodies of water. That way if she makes a break for a swim she will have the strength to paddle around out of her depth.
Never let her swim in play in stagnant water, or areas with strong currents. Never let anyone throw her into a body of water. Always keep her under control - ie - don't let her swim off if you haven't trained her on the recall! she may make a break for the horizon! And finally let her get used to water in her own time.
Watching Goldens playing in water is hilarious - have fun!

A lot of dogs do that. Retrievers are water dogs and they like the water. Some dogs do it because they are playing. If you see her do that, try to distract her with a toy. It can get messy. I had a dog once that used to tip the bowl over and spill the water. I got one she could not tip over. As she got older she stopped doing that.

ha! ha! ha! she's a golden and is just having some fun discovering her new world (and cos she's a golden she may just also be a bit clumsy!!)
My golden boy did this too......and also went thru a phase of his ears going in too!
I would take her out & get her used to water so she can start swimming.....
This breed just brings so much pleasure - i know they're dogs but goldens have such brilliant personalities and hers is now just starting to show through.
Enjoy!!!! & take loads of photos
xx
