Like all of us, he was both a bad and a good person. He committed the sins of coveting, adultery and murder but he humbled himself before God and asked his forgiveness. I don't think one bad act or even many bad acts make a person bad, it whether there was guilt, shame or forgiveness requested that makes the difference.

Personally, I do not believe I would have liked the man.
Biblically God states that he was a man after his own heart. That is a good thing and that makes him a good or righteous person in Gods eyes.
His faults that are well known, such as adultry, but lessor know facts such as his total disregard for raising his own children in a God fearing manner and allowing them to run "wild" as it would seem so that one son rapes his own sister and another son avenges that rape because David did nothing about it.
But, not matter what I think or feel, David was counted as righteous by God and that is what really matters.

Romans 3:10
As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;
Ro 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
That being said, God did call David " a man after His own heart and anoint him king.
Ac 13:22
And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'
That's a pretty good reference if you're making up your resume if you ask me.

David was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart but had some fleshly flaws. The bible always speaks of David as a man after God's heart and you know he is in heaven. He always repented after he fell into sin. I believe God loved and loves David very much.

Yes. He was good. About later kings it is said that they were good, like David, who only had the one sin.

I'd say he was both, just like all of us. He had to have something right though for God to call him " a man after my own heart". He was human just like all of us, but was following God with his heart.

He was a man after Gods own heart. I know he sinned, but he was quick to repent and he meant it.
