I had my baby one month and three days ago...you know upon discharge they tell you no tampons, no sex and no baths for six weeks. Do I really have to wait six weeks to take a bath? How long did you wait?

it depends. did you have stitches? did you have a bad tear? i think that is just a general estimate of time to minimise infection etc. i think you would be ok to have a bath, but i would refrain from using tampons. as far as having sex again, that is basically up to you, as long as there is no pain or discomfort. i would recommend you wait out the 6 weeks though

how does your body feel. and why no tampons. that one is a little much. If there is a reason in particular that your doc told you, then there you go. This is always a normal amount of time a woman takes to heal after birth. The baths thing makes sense, you do not want a wound sitting in warm water, this gives a higher chance of infection. $ex is something for the wound tearing or the pain. It is your body, but I would call the hospital first and ask if you can do any of these things for sure. They are going to ask you about the healing and the pain and stuff so be prepared to answer lots of questions.

a bath yes but u can always take a shower. do as ur dr. says.
the reason u r waiting for yhe use of tampons and sex is to let the stitches heal inside ur vagina. the bath is to keep the stiches dry. take a shower.

I didn't wait long at all. I don't think I even knew that rule. I know you shouldn't have a bath between your water breaking and having the baby... not after delivery. Nothing bad happened to me bathing almost right away after both my babies.

They tell you all kinds of things because you have one in a million chances of getting an infection.
I took baths after the birth of my babies, I never had any problems.

My sister is a home birthing midwife and they have HUGE portable tubs that they take to the woman's house prior to the birth. They leave these tubs for the women to soak in after the birth.

YES Your pores and stuff are still open from your child birth experience. Taking a bath could expose you to infection. Same thing with sex.

they mean not to emerse yourself in water! you can shower and it feels wonderful, I took a shower 2 hours after my daughter was born and everyday after that. just be sure not to use any harsh soaps down there and to dry your self carefully You dont need to get your stiches down there really wet or possibly force fluids up into your healing uterus. I would just shower for now and wait for the bath in a few weeks! Congrats and Good LUck!

for a bath yes, but you can take a shower. they just don't want you sitting in a tub and getting an infection from bacteria or something

I think that depends on how many stitches you get. Call your dr if you're worried.
