Hey, I just got her today. She's salt & pepper and she'll probably be pretty small even when full grown.

I want to name her some word with meaning. Human names I'm not too interested in, and I don't necessarily want the name to be feminine.

Thanks.

First thing that came to mind was "Mariposa" Because schnauzers have those big ears when they're little...
And because schnauzers are such clowns sometimes...Calamity seems like a fitting name.

I realize you said you're not interested in human names, but I cannot STAND those cute little fussy names: Brownie, Tiny! Wee, let's have a pillow fight in our pink undies! Gag me with a spoon. Try www.babynames.com. I go there when I'm looking for names when I'm writing stories. Look up some funky names by meaning (like "small" or "gracious") or origin (British, Vietnamese, etc.). It's really cool.

Schnauzers are cool. Usually the name comes after you notice some obvious characteristics. Here are a few off the top of my head. Pepto, Pita, Sneakers, ChoCho, Beekers.
I could come up with hundreds.

I like the name " Talia ", its the name of a sweet but mischeivious wood sprite in some fantasy novel that i once read. I liked it so much I borrowed it for my daughters middle name and she has luved up to her namesake .

Our salt and pepper schnauzer is eight pounds (wet!) and we call her "Pocket". She was so little as a pup, that my kids would carry her in the "pocket" of their "hoodie"(sweatshirt). She loved it and would fall asleep- the name stuck!
