I wouldn't change anything (well,,,,actually I would take out the parts where God sanctions rape and woman as property or reasons to judge another [like homosexuality for example]...that doesn't belong in the "Word" of God).
What I would change instead, if I could, was the way in which the Bible is read. I would have it read as stories, lessons, subjects of spiritual inspiration-the way it was intended.

I wouldn't try to rewrite it. Its not wise to think you can do better than God.
Its has been done before though ie. Joseph Smith and other cults
I don't see anyone trying to re-write history because they don't like parts of it (well some people do but its a very deceptive practice). Just as the bible contains a lot of history, sacred texts and inspired revelation from God.

For the sake of this and the last generation, I would rewrite Genesis to make it more scientifcally credible. This was never its purpose, but it would help some people.

I would have the Hebrews trot on over to Canaan right away. None of that forty years in the Sinai desert with little or no trace. The mannah thing makes no sense either... silly story.

revise so that every religious belief system had the same authority and respect as the others in order to let people know without question that GOD is to big to be in only one place and there are many paths and ways to get to ones destination. these various paths and ways are equal in status and getting to the destination is the important thing not how one gets there

If you read the book of Revelation, there are special instructions about not taking away from or adding to the word of God. Anyway, who can improve on God and who am I to disagree with Him. He is the potter, I am the clay. We have to remember that.
