Well, I haven't kept up w/ your other Q's, but don't skip out on your follow up appt, keep your headache diary, write down each day, how you feel, rate the pain 0 being no pain, up to 10 being extreme, horrible pain (dont know if she told you to do it this way or not, but it's really helpful to have the pain ratings)
Also write down when you get your period, & how long it lasts... that way you can track if the headaches get worse around the week of your period or not (that's a common trigger)
Keep note if it rains or if the temp. changes, warm or cold.
Other things like alcohol (even 1 drink), foods you dont eat much etc...

Then your doctor may give you meds or may refer you to a neurologist....
I'd see where it goes, and if you dont' feel like you got good answers from her, ask for a referral to a neurologist... and then keep all your diary notes & take them with you to that doctor so he/she can look them over too.

There are so many possible reasons for headaches...

most common - your eyesight. It can change during lifetime and the first symptom is not that you don't see well on the distance or near but that you get a headache.

Another reason: hormonal. If you take birth control pills for example headaches can hit you more frequently. I suffered a lot from that and all headaches disappeared when I stopped taking the pills.

And then - there are many types of headaches if you want to identify the cause. Are they on one side or over the front or the whole head? Pulsating or steady? When do they appear? I did not see your former description, maybe you had it in there.

If common over the counter drugs don't help you need to see a different doctor.
Hope you feel better soon

I've had migraines for 30 years. They don't need an excuse!!!! Everything can be fine and still I get a migraine. The doctor wants the diary to see if it could be food allergies. Certain foods such as MSG (in Chinese food), red wines, aged meats can trigger a migraine. Look up migraines on the Internet. You can get a lot of information. This will also help the Dr. to prescribe something to prevent you from getting the migraines. I have arthritis which is a trigger for them. So many things could be the cause. Give the doctor a chance. Your best bet though would be a neurologist.

You may want to check the base of the skull and see how tender it is there...If it is pronounced, it is a pretty good indication of a pretty good case of an inflammatory condition which involves the cranial nerves. The very part of the nervous system that causes dilation of the pupils and arteries. Many other symptoms can be forthcoming, totally dependent on how many of those nerves are being affected.

The alignment of the back is not determined by a cursory examination.. what did the x-rays show.

Should you receive no help, perhaps it is time to see someone who treats headaches regularly and have developed their reputation with such treatments.. usually after all else has failed.... is way past time to see your local Doctor of Chiropractic..

I get them too and my symptoms are a lot like yours I have taken prescription Imitrex and it works VERY well for me. Thank God a Dr. prescribed it. What helped me the most before I started taking Imitrex was: Orudis KT or Vanquish, nasal spray, and a little Mentholatum where ever the pain was and a little under the nose to breath the menthol, then to bed I'd go. It would be helpful to find out what kind of headache you are suffering from. Sinus? Cluster? Migraine? Read up on what foods and activity to avoid. Strong odors (perfume) chewing gum, driving in traffic (stress I guess) bright lights, loud noise..music, TV, etc. were things I tried to avoid. Good Luck.

try white vinegar and water clothes. mix the vinegar and hot water dip a cloth in and wring it out and put it on your forehead it works great for headaches. Replace the cloth when it starts to cool. This is an old fashioned cure and works great for me. Dark room and quiet is good too. There is a list of foods that trigger migraines you could research this on the net. Keep the diary as the doctor said and don't give up hope there are lots of medications out there for migraines

Dear, If I were you I would skip out on your Dr. and go to a neurologist. My Family Practice Dr. mislead me on my problems too. They said to check my eyes and I did. After that, they put me on high powered pain meds. I know all about staying bed because of the pain. NOTHING helped me. It was terrible. The pain I was going through.... I wouldn't of wished it on my worse enemy. Just have yourself checked by a neurologist. It might do you some good.
