My son goes to school with a little boy who's sister has head lice? What are the chances my son can get it? She invited my son over to play at her house. I'm worried about my son and the children I babysit. Can they be affected by just being in the same room? Or do they have to share hats or something. Her kids were here to play today before I found out. She didn't tell me or the school. I found out by somebody else. What do I do?

Head lice spreads very easily with head to head contact or sharing hats etc.. Best solution for you at this point is to buy yourself some tea tree oil..lice hate it! Put 10 drops into your childrens shampoo and yours just in case. Put some tea tree oil into a spray bottle with water and spritz everything that goes to school...hats, jackets, backpacks etc.... it doesnt smell too great but will save you hours of hassle with head lice. Another quick solution for now is to tie up your childrens hair and put in lots of hair gel and hair product...preferably with glitter...lice hate that too! I have 3 kids....and also ran a home daycare for 10 years..before that I was a nanny for years and years....I've had plenty of lice experience and believe me....avoid getting it to start with!! The laundry..the egg picking, the hair treatments...the smell...the vacumming....oh boy! Good luck!!

There are several web sites that tell how to treat head lice! RID makes an over the counter "kit" to treat head lice and also some really helpful tips on how to make sure they don't spread. They also have a web site. If you have children you baby sit, I would definitely make sure to let their parents know they were exposed so they can be treated. Lice spreads very easily. I would treat just to be sure. There are products you can use to clean your home and if you have items you cannot wash such as stuffed animals etc., you should put them in a closed bag and set them aside. I once found only one little "nit" on my daughter and treated her and the family right away and washed all of the bedding. (She had a friend spend the night.) Better safe than sorry!

The chances your son can get it are very good. Lice do not jump but can move very quickly. Check your son's hair, if he has some he will need to be treated. If you do not find any, use tea tree oil to keep them away. Talk to your son about not sharing hats, etc. Talk to your son's friend's family about the obligation to report to the school about this problem

Your child should not be hanging around with kids that have lice or possibly have lice. And, no. Physical contact must be made in order to "transfer" lice. Examples: sharing combs, hats, etc. Your son should definately be cleaning and washing his hair properly. If you can, slick your sons hair back with lots of gel. This make is harder for lice to get into his hair.

head lice can be transmitted just from being in the same house as the lice eggs drop on couches...pillows...and the lice are attracted by the kids wrestling or many other ways.

What I'd suggest is treat your children and your home now...and tell the other parent about it...she/he needs to know so they can treat their home and kids as well.

My son went and spent the weekend with his mom and came back with headlice. unfortunately I didn't catch it but the school did...and I had to come home from work and get him and treat him.

It is very embarrasing for the child when this happens.

Lice aren't choosy...they jump on anyone so go to the store and get some RID...get the treatment kit for your child as well as your home. And do everyone who lives there including yourself.

Sorry to hear about it...I know it sucks.

head lice can be spread very quickly by just walking into a room with some one who has got it so i would not let my son go over to the girls house and i would spray and wash every thing in the house and i would checked his head every day when he got home

this person who told u are they sure of the facts, have u noticied anything?such as scrathing of the head.etc.etc.maybe u could say it 2 the school teacher & the school could have letters drawn up 2 give 2 every pupil in the school.if u are really worried and u don't want 2 stop the children playing u could always keep a check on ur own childrens heads.

Those suckers jump! You may want to check his head because those little things are something else! I use to get it when I was at school just by being in class with kids who had lice.

Lice spread easy and if they're playing and they bumo heads he could easily get them. I would'nt let him go. Also you should tell the shool so there is not a lice outbreak.

yes people can get affected if they share hats, sit together. Make sure your son stays away from the kid like a big distance. Or just don't let him hang out with them
