Lisa how strereo-typical..not to mention rude to say that!

No they arent fictional, and yes they occurred for serveral reasons mentioned above. Pregnancy and sexual relations before marriage. There were many other reasons especially in the 1700 and early 1800's. When it was inappropriate for any 'maid' (unmarried or single woman) to be alone with any male. etc..etc..etc. There have been 'shotgun' weddings even in this century. But I doubt very many actually involved shotguns.LOL

No they're quite real. A shotgun wedding is simply one that occurs very quickly usually because the bride is pregnant. They don't happen as often as they used to mainly because unwed parents have become more accepted in society.

No, they're not fictional it is actually a wedding that is forced upon a young man and women when he has gotten a young woman pregnant

Yes they are. In the past people were made to wed by gun or sword point. Modern weapon of choice is guilt wielded via parents or even worse in some cases grandparents. Usual reason were pregnancy or premarital relation or even for money.

No - there was one only a few weeks ago that appeared on the bbc website. A farmer heard noises late one night & when out to investigate. He saw a man having 'fun' with his female goat. He caught the man and dragged him to the local village priest and forced them to marry. Apparently they are still together! This is for real.
