at 8pm tonight(uk time) my partner started to experience pains in his stomach, the left side of his belly button,as the night wore on his pain worsened, going from his left side, and shooting across his stomach, round to his back,at 9:30pm he was rolling round the floor in agony, crying, the pain was really bad.i've been with him for 10yrs and never seen him like that.also for the last few weeks he has been getting chest pains, and feeling light headed but has been to scared to go to the doctors, because his father and uncle passed away before the age of 40 due to heart attacks.(he's 32)i rang 999 and the ambulance has taken him to hospital.i'm really worried,i've checked on the internet for symptoms of appendicitis but the pains start on the right side, not the left like my partners.i'm left at home worried sick,as my 4 children are asleep, and i have no-one to babysit them.

I had pains similar to that a couple of years ago. At the time I was kept in hospital overnight, but let out when they couldn't find anything wrong. Then a couple of months ago the pains came back and lasted all during the night. Then 2 weeks ago the pains came back again and this time the hospital kept me in for a few days. After all the tests they found out I have gallstones, so I'm just waiting to go for an operation. You can get pains in the stomach and sides with these stones. Then in other cases the pains are in the stomach and chest (like a heart attack). My first attack felt more like a heart attack, I was getting waves of chest pain and my heart was racing.
The good news is that when you're doubled in pain like that, the hospital will give the person an injection (all the pain goes away within 10 or 15 minutes). Then it's just a matter of doing blood tests and scans to find out exactly what caused the pain. Trust me on this one, by now he'll probably be pain free and sitting up in bed. If it's not gallbladder stones, then it could be kidney stones. I was told that kidney stone pain tends to be lower down and with the gallbladder the pain is a bit higher. In the worst case it could be his heart, but he's in the right place and they'd quickly detect and fix any problems. Give the hospital an hour or so to settle him in and then call them to put your mind at rest. Best of luck and try not to worry.

Hello,
It could be a lot of things and it is very difficult to guess
But he is in right place.
Left sided, stomach pain and goes to the back
well it is not gall stones and not appendicitis. I don't know how old he is but does not sound like diverticulits as well.
So my guess:
Left sided kidney stones- They can do a dye/xray and ultrasound scan. Very painful condition indeed
The second thing which also must be excluded is pancreatitis- did he have alcohol? The can have a blood test to exclude that.
May be stomach ulcer/gastritis-- you need a scope to diagnose that and they will not do it today.
If they excluded those different things and he got better- you should not worry about it that much and probably they will follow him up as an outpatient.
The other thing to do is to keep him over night and see how does it go.
Good luck and take care

I suppose that many stomach pains are blamed on nothing more than stress, or the wrong foods, air quality, the economy, or at least thousands of other factors in our lives. Stresses can cause ill effects to everyone, but we each need to examine our own lifestyle and see what we can do to improve ourselves. Simple things sometimes mean the most, and even walking outside the front door for a few minutes can make the world seem better... no drugs needed.

Try not to worry, it might be something that is easily treatable, like gallstones or an ulcer.
You did the right thing by calling the ambulance, he sounds like he really needs to get this sorted out. They will give him a good check up and see what the cause is.
Try to hang in there, ring the hospital regularly and try to get someone to come in as soon as possible so that you can be with him. I'm sure no-one would mind being called on by you in this emergency situation.
Good luck, I hope everything turns out well for you all.

It sounds like renal colic (kidney stones) especially if the pain had him rolling around and unable to keep still. Just edited this reply as I didn't notice the bit about him already being in hospital. He's in the best place, the first thing they'll do is give him some pain relief and an abdominal x-ray.

Stomach pain or bellyache may be caused due to a problem in the organs in the abdominal region. The main organs in the abdomen are the digestive system consisting of the stomach, small and large intestines, the liver, the gall bladder , pancreas, the appendix and the kidney. Minor problems like gastroenteritis can cause severe pain, while fatal illnesses like cancer may cause only mild pain. there are many reasons for these symptons, but we always fear the worst.
wait for the hospital to tell you as everyone is only guessing really.
however these symptons can range from even having colic/wind so look on the bright side and await the definate diagnosis.
good luck.
