LCD longer life

Here we go the then:

The expected working life of an LCD television is some 8000 hours on average whereas plasma is about half that. You don't get the handling problems with LCD that you do with plasma, as you've got to keep them upright at all times. If you lay them down you upset the plasma and they don't work. Whilst it is true that Plasma screens are bigger
bear in mind that you need to sit about ten feet from a 28 inch screen to appreciate the picture at its best and some 18 feet from a 42 inch screen so unless you have a big room you'll be too close to the telly and wont get any benefit visually.
Plasma is very expensive for the technology and is probably on the way out now that LCD screens are getting bigger and Sony is messing about with SED (surface emitting diode) technology and so if by some miracle your plasma survives five years without breaking down it may well be difficult to get the parts for it.

Hope that's useful.

There is a difference!! They both have good points and bad points, however overall LCD is better.

Plasma screens can endure screen burns especially if you watch a paticular channel for long periods of time however the picture quality is really sharp. If you have realised plasma screens get hot and should not be touched because the oil from hands etc can damage the pixels etc. So if you have kids etc it may not be viable to purchase a plasma. Also in some cheaper versions of plasma screens the image can trail on screen in fast moving movies etc.Plamsa bonus is that it is cheaper than LCD, much cheaper.

LCD has advantages of still being thin so you can also say hang it on the wall etc. However it is more expensive than plasma.

Overall LCD is the better option for both picture quality and durabilty.
Good luck

LCD is best. The gas inside a plasma tv deteriorates after a few years.

Plasma is the better picture, but you get burn in on the tv screen, all those lovely little icons that the stations place in the corner like sci-fi channel are on constantly and burn the image into your tv set ... lcd has less of a problem with burn in, but it can still happen.
