I’m really talking about beginners or anyone who doesn’t want to actually step into the ring.

What’s the point of going to an MMA gym if you aren’t going to fight?

Why don’t you just go to jiu-jitsu instead?

Different people train for different reasons.

At the school I go to, they offer MMA, BJJ (gi and no-gi), Muay Thai, Judo and wrestling.

There are guys I see who only do the MMA class. It's cool because it incorporates many things including take-downs, striking, ground and pound, cage control, etc.

Very useful in a real life self defense situation.

MMA incorporates stand up fighting, where most fights begin and may end. BJJ is strictly ground. Do you drop on your back when confronted with an adversary? And BJJ does not consider multiple attackers. Drop to the ground with one attacker and his buddy is gonna kick you in the head.

Be sound in all aspects of the fight game. It will benefit you the most.

to make you a more rounded fighter or martial artist. MMA might incorporate strength, flexibility, cardio and endurance training while BJJ may only focus on techniques.

A waste of talent? so doing nothing is talent in motion? what a joke.

as for the question: MMA has the blend of BJJ and kick boxing.

so you get 2 for 1.

to be a well balanced fighter you should at least look at trying some opposites. you also dont have to fight in a ring, but fight in ring type scenarios.
just like marial arts in general. you dont have to do it to fight, but damn, when push comes to shove, its good to have the fighting skills to fall back on than chess mastery.

I think mainly it's because of it's popularity right now. But it's better to learn BOTH sides of the fight to be effective, plus it's just as effective in the streets in a real fight.

Jujitsu is good to study, but it only works on the ground game and not the standing game aspect of a fight which is where the fight's gonna start with, but may end up on the ground.

MMA studies both aspects, but unfortunately, it doesn't focus on perfecting the techniques of the standing game and the ground game separately, but together so the student has to focus on these aspects on their own in their training outside the class.

to have maximum efficacy in a fight, you have to learn both sides of it.
