never knew or met my father but i want to know if there is a way i can find out what my racial background is. is that possible?

I think so. 2 instances:

1) there's a dna test that can trace your liklihood of origin geographically (europe, africa, asia, etc.)

2) dna has been tested to figure out what percentage Native American they are to see if they quality for Native American benefits under the government.

In a relatively new technique that tests mitochondrial DNA they can determine a broad racial profile. Crime labs use it but I can't imagine that the average person off the street would be able to have the test done. You might be better off just investigating the whereabouts of your father. If you need proof once you find him then you can have a paternity test done.

Sure, but it's expensive. Known as DNA testing.
