I was in the EXACT situation. I just went up to his old co-workers and asked if he was available. It turned out he was, and one of the guys gave me his number. And I left my number with his co-worker to give to him.
So, what I'm trying to say is.............he's not gonna know you like him unless you say something! And it's even better, cause if you get rejected, it's okay, cause you don't work with him anymore!
