Chives are not green onions although they are in the onion family. I think that chives are a type of herb and green onions are considered to be a vegetable.

No, chives are of the onion family but do not grow a bulb. They are much milder and are about 1/4 inch in diameter and are long.

Chives and green onions belong to the onion family.

Green onions are also called scallions or in Asia, they are called spring onions.

no .
but chives are onions.

Chives (Allium schoenoprasum), is the smallest species of the onion family[1] Alliaceae, native to Europe, Asia and North America[2]. They are referred to only in the plural, because they grow in clumps rather than as individual plants. Allium schoenoprasum is also the only species of Allium native to both the New and the Old World.
