Some times when I roll I try to be courteous to others, by either letting them breathe when I have side control or not putting all of my weight on top of them. Is this wrong?

I haven’t lost ground or control when I do this, but I hate when I’m in that position and other students will put all of their weight on me or even try to smother me with their gi.

Am I the only one who does this? Should I be more aggressive and not care about their well-being? I mean, they are fellow students.

Thanks for the help!

There is nothing wrong with putting all of your weight on top of someone. In fact, it is almost a disservice if you don't because then they don't know how to stay calm and learn how to move in that situation.

You should ALWAYS care about your fellow student's well being. If you hurt someone because you were being stupid, or get labeled as a spaz, you're not gonna last long at your school at all!

Remember, you HAVE TO train hard, don't be p*ssy-footing around, but don't be afraid to man up!

Lastly, make sure when you're rolling instead of just tapping everyone and not saying anything, give them tips and pointers on what they could do better. Also, when you roll make sure you ask questions as well.

Have fun and enjoy!

Yeah, but that's what it's all about; training. You've gotta learn how to keep yourself calm because the person on the street won't go easy on you, if they start to give or stop their attempt to counter, then yeah ease up because you should be aware of their well being at all times when you train.

Be aggressive, but be mindful of your training partner; because you're not only training yourself but your partner in performing your techniques together.

I only go hard with people that go hard with me, if someone wants to roll light than do it, if they are aggresive than you be agressive. Although in any compition on any level your competiters will be very agressive.
