a 9mm glock because it is a simple gun, basically dummy proof, all you have to do is point and pull the trigger, safetys are all built inside the trigger mechanism...put ur finger on the trigger and the safetys released, finger off the trigger and the safetys on...

Depends on what you want it for? A 22 is small but, it can do damage and good for small game hunting. A 9 mm is good for self protection if you really think you need it. .38 special might be more like it and have the same stopping power and they come in smaller frames than 9mm and can be less expensive. Other than that there is no reason to have a hand gun. Don't get me wrong, I own a shotgun for home protection and a carbine. If I were to get a handgun, I probably would consider a .38 wheel gun or maybe a semi-automatic. Both are classic looking.

A smaller person does not necessarily need a small gun, now i can handle a subcompact Glock easily, but i took another young lady out that was larger than you and she couldn't handle it. With that same lady i gave her a Taurus PT92, Beretta 92 clone, to shoot and the results were great, not the best, but there was an extreme improvement over the subcompact. The reason is that the 92 is a lot heavier than the glock she shot, that means the pistol absorbs more of the felt and applied recoil on the shooter meaning a lot easier control. The 9mm cartridge is a good low recoil round that is a decent as far as killing power is concern. I would recommend .45 ACP, but the recoil straight back is a lot. .40S&W has too much snap in my opinion. My recommendation would be a Beretta 92FS. Always make sure you test the feel of it in your hands before you buy though.

Handguns requiring a lot of practice and arm strength to keep it accurate after 3 minutes of use. There is a reason why they aren't given to most soldiers and it isn't cost. Go with the 9 mm Glock, but you will probably be happier with a 6mm PPC rifle with a varmint scope. For protection, there is nothing like a 10 gauge shotgun with buck shot.

My husband is a gun expert. He recommends a .38 Special revolver. Safer. Be sure to take a gun safety class. I'm assuming this is for lawful use...no gang wars, crimes, etc.

I'd advise against both of your choices. As an admitted novice, you should start with the basics. Go with a revolver. Graduate up to the semi auto's with practice, practice, practice, familiarity and eventual proficiency.

I don't think it matters, 1911 Colt .45s are the best handguns in the world.
