Take a soak in a hot bath.
Do some gentle exercise, but nothing strenuous. Some gentle stretching would be ideal.
Lie down and sleep. Sleep is a natural healer.

Take some ibuprofen and soak in a hot tub. There is really nothing you can do but wait a few days for it to go away. Next time take 500 mg of Vitamin C before your workout and eat a banana after (that help a lot with the soreness). It also helps to do your 2 miles of walking immediately after the workout. Just keep working out and it will get less and less each time.

Your body is asking the question...what did you just do to me. You said you did not workout in years so your body is not use to the strain you just placed on it. It will take time to ease into a good fitness program so be sure to warm up before hand and to stretch afterwards...every time! Warm up with some light walking or slow low impact aerobics to warm up muscles.
Don't expect to be kicking your heels head high so quickly, it will take time for your body to adjust to a program. Give yourself time and modify routines if they are too difficult in the moment. When you can "do better" you will do better.
If your hurting bad, remember RICE Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Give your body some rest from cardio tomorrow and do some resistance training with bands or weights instead.
Alternate daily and don't work the same muscles
every day....they need rest to repair.
As your body gets use to exercise you won't be as sore unless your challenging yourself in a workout. Congrats on making the first step and getting fit again....your worth it!!

You have to EASE in to exercise.

But that doesn't help now:

Try an anti inflammatory like motrin, Aleve.

Take a warm bath and soak in Epsom salts for at least 20 minutes.

This and unfortunately a couple of days will take the bite out of the ache. Don't stop working out. Stay with it, but EASE into the next session.

you poor thing...Been there done that. Just take over the counter pain relievers and rest your muscles. Wait at least one to two days before working out again. If its that bad you probably over did it. In the mean time do some stretching exercises. That will help the pain.

Vitamin c 500 mg 4 times a day
Pycnogenol 100 mg daily does wonders for workout soreness.
Fish oil capsules 2-4 with each meal for inflammation.

Take a nice, soothing, warm cocoa bath. That helps me relax AND it gets rid of the pain. That happens to me ALL THE TIME. Well, not actually "all the time", but it happened when I first worked out in a couple of years.

There really isn't much you can do. Some IcyHot may help. Hot tubs /spas/hot baths can help ease it away faster. Just make sure you keep constantly with the work-outs, it's the best you can do for your body now.

Take a long, hot bath with a good book and some of your favourite candles, it will relax your muscles and the candles can be very soothing
