During conversation with others, it usually takes me a few seconds to process something they say. For instance, I'll say 'Pardon', and then I'll immediatly get it as they start over, however if I choose to pause for a moment instead, I fear that I'll lose their interest.

Are there any brain-related exercises that I can perform, or any food I can eat to improve my memory / brain power?

Try to memorise everything related to you in order to train your memory. For example; what you ate the past 2 days, your week program, phone numbers, etc.

That it takes you a few seconds to process something you're gonna say does't mean that your brain isn't working properly, you just need more oral practise to get familliar with talking.

Play Chess. It has been proven time and again that playing this game is excellent for developement of brain power, it also helps you perform more abstract things.

hey..don't worry..it's the problem of many....i don't think there is any special medication of food to solve this particular issue..ofcourse there are some remedies or solutins to have nice memory..one of them is eating cinnamon sticks....
well coming to ur problem..just try to concentrate on what they r speaking at present..rather than thinking of what u haven't understood...if possible kknow the topic before starting convesation....just listen them carefully...if u won't understand ...u can stop them at the beginning itself...and then u can cope up with the conversation...asking them for clarification shows ur interest rather than loosing interest on u...

gud luck dude..try it out...u wil get it...
cheers..

I've heard that things such as crossword puzzels, Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, etc can sharpen your mind! Also, reading! It enables you to think faster and with more depth!

sometimes its caused because you are not really listening in the first place, or maybe you were thinking whilst they were talking and hadn't taken all the conversation in.
We all do it.

rub your finger realy slow, and swallow. works with everyone.
it only works when you dont know how to think faster.
if dose not work, swallow bubble gum or have a energy drink to get prepared when you are going to talk to someone.
same thing happened to me, and everything worked
passed it on to others, and its worked for them aswell.
