Historical record? No. Myth? Maybe. Then again, Troy was considered a myth, til Troy was found.

The evidence may be there, it might not exist any longer. They have a bit of a time piecing together any kind of historical record, from even 20 years ago, let alone 2000 years, with the civilization involved falling, being overrun, several wars in the area.

Many historical sites really just boil down to some rocks piled together, some stuff dug up from a trash dump, and maybe some mentions in books and documents that survived to this day...like a holy book...Err, i guess that one might be a sore topic around here...

By the By, the historian from old was Josephus, who wrote a history of the area, and scholars think the reference to Jesus is a forged entry.

read about flavius josephus, is one of the earliest historians that wrote about hebrew history. He wrote about Christ's cruxifiction.
But there is not a roman document, because for them he was just a criminal more...don't needed to keep a record.
Besides there are the gospels that tell almost all about it.

The jewish historian Jeoseph is said to have recorded these accounts and is proof that it happenned since Jeosephus was not a follower of Christ.

Josephus Flavius (check spelling) was a jewish historian and he wrote antiquities. there are some others, check google for that.
