All 'christians' ignore Matthew 5:48:
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
True Christians (and they are extremely few in number) understand that the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is the key to understanding Matthew 5:48. These are the people who live in accordance with the Word. They do not persecute or harass anyone. They are the ones who understand the need for humility.
All the others who call themselves 'christian' are misled by the words of Peter, Paul and the OT. Peter and Paul corrupted the Word by emphasizing grace (Paul mostly). Peter had denied Jesus, Paul was a self-appointed preacher after killing Christians. Neither could face the truth. They comforted themselves that because they did not attain perfection, no one could. This is arrogance, and has misled so many. To console themselves, they emphasized faith in grace, rather than the Sermon. They believed their only hope was forgiveness, not Matthew 5:48.

I invite you to read the Sermon. I'm not trying to convert anyone. But if you would challenge the wolves in sheep's clothing, you will find your strongest arguments in the Sermon on the Mount.

re: Romans.
You would use the words of a man who killed Christians to gainsay the Word of Jesus?

Paul corrupted the Word. He did not follow it. Compare the Sermon on the Mount with Paul's words and you will see the difference. Whom would you believe in, Paul or Jesus?

It is not a "loud fanatic minority". It is a vast majority.
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate: and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Matthew 7:13-14
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
Matthew 7:21

Those who have ears will hear. There is a reason Jesus said there will be few who find the narrow way. Those who believe in grace alone and thus refuse to believe in Matthew 5:48 are those who walk the wide path to destruction.

The Sermon is not about our relationship with God. It is about our relationships with each other.

"no one is perfect"
As long as you believe that, you limit yourself and lack faith in Jesus and His Sermon on the Mount.
The Sermon tells you how to be perfect. Refuse to believe it is possible and you take the wide path, not the narrow way to life.

So you're saying they take the "Be ye therefore perfect..." part in the wrong sense and not like they should...

Are you perfect? No. No one is. Except Jesus. Yes, the Sermon on the Mount is a good thing to try to live by, but without forgiveness and grace we would have no hope. Even as small children, we lie; that's a sin and that means we aren't perfect. If we all had to be perfect then no one would have any kind of hope for heaven. Yes, Peter denied Jesus. Jesus forgave him. Paul killed Christians. Jesus forgave him. I've done things I'm not proud of and Jesus forgives me. I'm sure you've probably done things you're not proud of, and Jesus forgives you too. Jesus loves and forgives, that's what he does. Jesus repeatedly forgave people in the New Testament. If we were supposed to be perfect then Jesus wouldn't need to forgive people.

If Peter and Paul corrupted the teachings of Christ, how it is that Paul's letters predate any of the Gospels? They were written before Matthew or any of the other gospel. In fact, two of the gospels were written through the activies of Peter and Paul. Mark was a spritual son of Peter, who recorded Peter's teachings about Jesus in his gospel. So whatever Mark says is the teachings of Peter. Luke was a convert and student of Paul. Whatever Luke says is the teachings of Paul.
Then there is John...the last gospel written. It only takes one read through to see that John's gospel has not only the words and actions of Jesus, but a commentary on the meaning of each. Every one of the events is John was choosen to dispute one of the heresies that was been taught when John wrote. Yet he never once dispute a single teaching in the writings of Paul or Peter. Rather he compliments them.
Sir down sometime and do a side by side comparison between the Sermon on the Mount and the last half of Paul's letter to the Ephesians. The outline of subjects is almost identical.
There is no contradition between the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of Paul or Peter.

This was a nice post. I think MANY religions have fanatics. It's a mindset that infects everything. All christians aren't fanatic any more than all muslims (or atheists) are.
Although I am an atheist, I'm not blind to the wisdom held in the Sermon on the Mount.
Unfortunately, its the loud fanatic minority that commands attention. Reminds me of the quote "you know that you have the right god when he hates all the same people you do."

It is the four gospels about the acts and word of christ that keep my faith alive...the sermon on the mount is definately one of my favorites...Iv'e never really had any use for the acts of the apostles or thier letters although some of pauls faith is inspiring....
as for the old testament....this is the word of god and it should be followed....i think people who believe that Christ made the word of God obsolete because of his death for our sins are wrong...I think you must believe in Christ as the light and the way into the kingdom of God but that doesn't mean you don't have to follow Gods rules.
As far as being perfect...all we can do is try...no one is perfect...I'm not perfect...but I still believe that Christ is what he said he is which makes me a Christian....
and as a Christian...I enjoy having a couple of beers with my friends and I also enjoy going to rock n roll shows and a whole bunch of "Non Christian" things like watching horror or sci-fi movies that are looked down upon by other Christians,I also like going to the casino or going to the track once in awhile.
so as you see I'm not perfect..but...I also don't believe that these are the things that will get you into Hell....
It's all about your deeds and how well you treat your fellow man.
how much you actually care about your brother human being and the little things you do to help maybe ease someones suffering a little...this to me is a true Christian...someone who goes around preaching fire and brimstone and saying your going to hell for doing what your doing but just walks by someone who asks for spare change so they can eat and does nothing to me these people are just a waste of space.

Because christians tolerate anyone calling themself a christian. I am NOT a Christian, but I do believe in what God did for mankind through sacrificing Jesus on the cross at Calvary.
Modern Christianity is an apostacy. In Modern Christianity, who needs to repent when we can just recrucify Christ all over again and again?
Sincerely,

People will claim they are Christian and that church affiliation does not matter, but if you dare to question their belief system, then watch out, it will be you know what to pay.
The worst ones are those who feel they are led by God through the working of miracles and the gift of speaking in tongues, which is nothing more then ecstatic utterance.
These are the ones who will try and control your life telling you that God told them such and such about you.

Romans 3....
22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
EDITED:::you realize paul converted from being a pharisee to a disciple of God? just checking. this is a weak arguement you have here
