You're right. Nowadays, newer version of cars have much
brighter lights generally and sometimes they really dazzle and
annoy other drivers who can be 'blinded' temporarily on the
road.
The road transport department should do something about it.

Well........................
No nose hair and Tartan rugs allowed in my car, and near perfect vision ( though not in the fashion stakes).
However you're right, the newer cars especially can dazzle to the point where as you've just passed each other you can see nothing for next few nanoseconds .
I'm talking in the country, pitch night no other road lights.
So I just have to try and look past the oncoming vehicle into the night and go a lot slower. It doesn't feel good and is a very good reason anyone on the roads at night should be lit up. Torches for dog-walkers and reflective clothing.
Oh no, I sound like I'm someones mother!
Oh well, that's OK , I am.

Many drivers are not aware that when they have rear seat passengers or a load in the boot the front of the car is raised up causing dazzle. Modern cars usually have an adjuster within the car to lower the lights. However as is often the case many drivers just dont care about others.

and to make matters worst, how about the drivers that have to use their fog lights all the time in day light or at night (unless the weather is raining). At night with the fog lights on, headlights appear as with driving with high beams and as you said, affects your depth of perception. My cars from the factory have always had a shut off con troll for these fog lights and when I approach another car I dim from 4 headlights to 2 headlights.
I know that the young drivers of today think IT"S COOL to drive this way but think about the drivers you blind.

yep, i don't care about brake lights, they can be a bright as they like, but the thing that's really bad are the newer cars, with the clear indicators, when they have there lights on, its much harder to see the indicators.

and so many cars have lights out of alignment how does this happen if they are correctly aligned at the factory how do they get so badly out ?

I hate to be funny, but the point of having lights on a car IS to be seen. They're bright for a reason!! If your driving towards a car, a simple way of not being blinded is NOT to look at them, look to the left of the lights an your fine.

I hate the HID headlights, they are designed so on dip they don't dazzle oncoming drivers and that works as long as you are on a flat road, but all the roads around here are going up and down small hills = loads of dazzle

I agree.

I drive 80% at night and am often blinded by lights on new cars.

Even had a row with some guy who I thought had his main beam on and i slowed down, let him overtake, and did the same to him.

It was a Volvo with Halogen lights, though he had set them a little high.

Fcuk em, I'm going to Halfords for the most powerful lights they have.

I know what you mean. But there is a legal maximum in terms of wattage. I guess it is just because of more standardisation of high brake lights. I hate it when drivers at the lights don't use there handbrake and sit covering their brakes.
