The U.S. Army is the only branch I can speak for. I served 4 years and did 2 tours in So. Korea, 1991 & 1995.. Hoorah!

No particular branch is better than the other. Each branch has it's own unique and vital role.
The Marines are always the first in and the last out because they have the best combat training of all the services.
The Navy gains control of the oceans and ports surrounding any area of conflict, while assisting in air support and providing off shore artillery when needed. (The Blue Angels are a demonstration team just like the Air Force Thunderbirds)
The Army bring in the support and armor. They have the Infantry and Armored Calvary divisions. We cannot take control of any situation involving tanks or heavy armor without the Army.
The Air Force will gain control of and dominate the skies. Also providing aerial support to the ground forces and and Naval aviators when required. (Just for common knowledge 90% of USAF personnel are not pilots, they fill mission support roles such as mechanical, avionics, medical, security, and intelligence.)
Each branch is just as good as the other and each have their ups and downs. As for which is best that is left to a matter of opinion.

For indiscriminate killing: The Marines. Face it, they're good at it.
For the college money: The Air Force. Easy, safe. Hell they get bonus pay whenever they stay in Army/Marine accomodations for 'substandard living conditions'
For smart folks: The Navy- be an officer and go to the academy and postgraduate school. Good technical and intellectual jobs in the Navy, also you can drive big boats... er ships..
Leftovers: The Army. It's too big to have all that much esprit de corps, but it's still a good environment. I'd say the Army's Special Operations dudes are the best choice here- whether Ranger, SF, Civil Affairs, Psyops, etc. If you become anything else you'll just end up as a gate guard at a FOB in Iraq.

I can't pick just one....they all have a specific job to handle, and they are all great at that job.....I am not going to go ask a Marine to go drive an aircraft carrier, but at the same time I am not going to tell an Air Force pilot to go and drive a tank.....They all have a job, and they are all the best at what they are in charge of doing. Each branch is there to fill a required area of need, and that is what they do...I don't think one could work without the other. The Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard...each has a role....

They are all heroes! If you are thinking about joining, then you need to ask yourself what you would like to do. I spent 5 years in the Navy and I LOVED it! But then again, I have a HUGE amount of respect for the people who serve in the Marines and Army. They are the majority of the troops serving on the ground. I was too chicken to do that! But then, I have a HUGE amount of respect for the Navy and Air Force as well. Especially the pilots who are flying above these dangerous areas. Each branch plays its role in the fight for our freedom. I honestly don't believe any one branch is "better" than the other.

Each branch has its mission and goals. The modern world has blurred the distinction between branches and has shown us the interdependence between ground, air and sea.
As one who has served, I find all the branches well deserving of our support and respect.
I preferred flying and did not think of a good reason to jump out of a functioning aircraft. I sure appreciate those who will. I am not a great swimmer but as the world is mostly water, we must have a strong navy.

All of the United States Military branches are awesome. But the Marines, in my opinion, is the best branch of them all.

Navy. I dont think less of the others, but because they probly have the widest range and capabilities...and, they could easily employ aircraft, long range munitions, or a thousand support entities anywhere in the world in a hurry.
As for the others...I support all the same. Regardless of the mission or outcome.

Depends on the criteria. The Marines are the baddest in ground battle. The Navy is the most versatile.
