I'm looking for what would the best to test for depending on rural environment we live in. We live around farm land and pastures, so I know it would be good to look for nitrates and feces in the water. What other things would condsider to be dangerous in the water.

Depending on the state you might get it tested for free or they might already have tested your water previously and could give you the file check with a local environmental or water government agency.

Test for bacteria like e.coli, giardia, cryptosporidium.

As far as other things, lead, mercury, toxins should be high on your list. Also if you live in a former mining area test for acids from mine leaching.
