Don't respond by saying "uh huh" or "Yes" or things like that. I would just sit there and say nothing and don't even nod. Just close my eyes and that should tell them you don't want to listen to their talk.

Have a sense of humor about it, because that is the only thing that will save you in the long run.

First off, they will probably be the same person you have next time your there. If that is the case, then i would suggest talking to her about a topic that you know that she knows nothing about and lacks real knowledge in that area. then talk talk talk to her about that topic. Eventually she will realize that she is doing the same thing to you and you don't like it.

Other than that, try a different place where the patrons are polite.

I always tell them up front that I'm kind of tired and if they don't mind I'm just going to rest while they do my hair. If they start talking I take a long time to answer and they get the message that I don't want to talk. Reading a magazine helps too. If you don't talk to them, they'll probably respect that you don't feel like gabbing.

I don't know but the stylist I went to on Saturday kept talking and talking and talking and not doing my hair. She wasn't talking to me though, the other employees. I was very irritated. You tell them politely that you are in a hurry and that you need them to finish with your cut.

Here's an idea. Tell the truth. Simply say, "Excuse me but I'm realty not in the mood for chit chat, thank you." Repeat as needed.

Tell her you have a build up of wax in your ears which has made you deaf. Or say you hope the problem with lice has cleared up

say in a scratchy voice that you have a strep throat or a sour throat. It usually works with me and some of my relatives... just don't do this too often or she or he will think you have issues=)
good luck though

Tell them that you have a headache. That usually puts the conversation to rest.

Just keep quiet. Or nods when she asked something. She will get the impression that you don't wanna talk and so she will keep her mouth shut.
