I have agoraphobia and my doctor put me on Cymbalta, I havent yet tried it but I wanted to know which medicine would be best for it ? I dont always have panic attacks but the thought of having them are always in the back of my head. There are days I can go shopping or wherever and I am fine and then there are other days where I'm scared to even go in a store because I'm scared of having a panic attack.

Hi Jill ... I've been there and I sympathize with you. The best and only medicine is in your head. You must be able to tell yourself that you will be ok. You bring on your own panic attacks by making a small situation much bigger. What helped me was a book called "Beyond Fear" and the help of a psychologist. Allow yourself to do a little more every day. On those days that you are scared to go out, go out anyway for a small errand and the next time do a little more. Before you know it, you'll learn how to control this fear and most importantly, the panic attacks. Hang in there, take baby steps everyday and before you know it, you'll be all better. Good Luck !

Most likely your doctor put on the medication to help you with your agoraphobia. He/she probably thought this would be the most effective treatment for you. Anti-anxiety agents are the most used types of drugs, and these can be several kinds, including narcotic-based ones. Anti-depressants are also used.
The point is, you need to take the medication before you have an attack, you need to take it daily, mostly likely, to prevent an attack from occurring, because this particular medicine won't help you once an attack has begun because it takes too long to get to a therapeutic level in your blood. The panic about having a panic attack is a common symptom for someone prone to panic disorders.

If the doctor gave you Cymbalta....why haven't you tried it? Do you want to have relief or not?
