Why do we even bother celebrating it these days, its no longer about what its meant to be about is it, its now just commercial in your face selling of products you can either do without or are useless, its meant to be a Christian celebration and as the churches are empty most of the year round it should be scrapped and we should just take a day off at some other time.

The summer season Olympics are held each 4 years and the iciness Olympics are held each 4 years. The iciness Olympics have been moved so as that they could fall in distinctive years than the summer season Olympics. the subsequent 2 iciness Olympics would be in 2010 and 2014. the subsequent 2 summer season Olympics would be in 2012 and 2016.

Well, don't make such a big deal of it, don't spend so much $ on stuff people don't need, then it won't be a problem. We feel such pressure to get "the best" which is so often more than we can afford. Maybe draw names if you have a large family, or do what one family I know did -- all gifts $15 or under......makes you be VERY thoughtful and doesn't put anyone in debt.
The most important thing is commemorating the birth of Jesus and spending nice time with people that you love. This is why we do it every year.

Because, just like Easter Jesus only did it once (was born once and Died once). And in any case, are you a leap year baby? Do you only celebrate once in four years? No I'm sure you get all excited on March 1st!!! I totally agree though about all the present buying and stuff. My daughter was born on Christmas day....

I don't celebrate the olympics. I celebrate Christmas though. What else would we have to look forward to during the winter unless we are able to hybernate?

I wish it wasn't such an obligation! :-) Most people I know struggle to buy so many gifts for so many people. If you give no gifts, it causes friction and if you give cheap gifts, its classed as an insult! I tell everyone not to buy for me and thankfully, they understand. I buy for the family children (neices, nephews etc) but no one else's. My partner and I dont swap gifts either purely due to finance. Luckily, he likes me all year and not just on Xmas morning! ;-) The same goes for cards. We don't send them. Our 8yr old gives cards out at school but that's it. If more people refused to give in to "Festive Fever" maybe it would stop the pressure. After all, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindu's, Jews and Sikhs don't fall for it so why should we? Christians don't either to some extent. We are told at our church to just give one card to the church for everyone and pin it to the board, instead of giving out loads of them! Christmas is financially out of control now. It's supposed to be about goodwill to all men, not good GIFTS to all men!

I wish we did too. It would be so much more enjoyable. I start getting depressed in September just thinking about all the work preparing and all the money I have to spend.

don't mind buying presents every four years as long as I get them every year - wouldn't December be very boring without Christmas - anyway I would lose a fortnight's holiday.
