I don't want to harm his coat is he's still too young. I'd like to know when's the best time to give him his first bathe.

He will be fine. Just use a shampoo that says Safe For Puppies and it has an age on there too.
Careful with flea shampoos, most of them are not recommended for puppies under a certain age.
Do NOT use any HARTZ products!

Be sure to rinse him really good, and be sure he is totally dry before taking outside (if it's cold out)

Oh..and if you plan to use a hairdryer on him...use a low or no heat setting.

Sure you can bath him now if he needs it. Make the water luke warm - he'll feel better if you run water into the tub before you put him in. Use dog shampoo and make sure you rinse it out very thoroughly. Towel dry him and if you can, dry him with a blow dryer to prevent chilling. If you dry his head first, he won't get as cold. At least get him about 75% dry and don't let him outside while he's still damp. Be very calm and patient and he'll learn to like bath time now while he's small and easier to control.

Why do you want to bathe him? He is so little yet. he certainly hasn't been sprayed by a skunk or rolled in dead fish.

If he has laid in wet pee spots in his pen or otherwise gotten feces on him, take a damp washcloth with very mild hypo-allergenc dog shampoo and wipe it off. Then wipe off the soap. Then dry the spot.

He will need to learn aout baths but please wait until he is 3-4 months.

you can bath them at 1 day old if you want...if he's nopt too big yet a good way to do it is right in the kitchne sick, and if you have a sprayer on the faucet that is especially handy for rinsing....or those hand help attachments for in teh shower, so you can rinse them real good. It's best to bget them use to baths now and thye will like it. Just treat him like baby, be real gentle and talk soothing. My 5 mo old german shepherds LOVES her weekly baths and is so good for them.

happy puppying!

Your pup is fine to bathe, make sure you use a shampoo designed for dogs, the ph in people shampoos is not right for dogs skin. Be sure & dry him good so that he does'nt get chilled,.

A gentle puppy shampoo will do. Read on the back of the label and see what it says. No flea shampoo yet!

My aunt raises American Staffordshire Terriers, and she will not bathe them until they are about 12 weeks old. Until then, if they get dirty paws etc.. she rinses them off in warm water.
