I suffer from TMJ as well as very spastic upper back and neck muscles. I have taken codeine, Tylenol, ibuprofen … nothing helps. I have been prescribed other anti-inflammatory drugs and amitriptyline … those didn’t help either. I often get migraines which I manage to control with Imitrix. Also, I have tension headaches almost daily. I’m not exaggerating. This chronic pain is beginning to ruin my life. I’ve been dealing with daily headaches for practically two years now. The only thing that makes a significant difference is getting a deep tissue massage to my upper back, neck and face. When my muscles relax, my headaches go away and don’t return for a long time. Obviously I can’t get a massage everyday. So, maybe muscle relaxants would work. Is there anything “safe” for daily use? I’ve never tried any prescription muscle relaxants before, but I think this may work. My doctor always seemed to stay away from prescribing muscle relaxants for some reason.

I know how you feel. I've been dealing with migraines for over 30 years. I take Imitrex too. It works for me.
You wanted to know names of muscle relaxers that you could take everyday. Here are a few:
Skelaxin
Baclofen
Flexeril
Some names of pain meds that work on the nerve are:
Neurontin
Elavil
Cymbalta
Ask your doctor about some of these. You could also look them up for yourself on http://webmd.com
Good luck and hope you feel better.

Did you never suspect the spastic muscles of the neck and upper back (being attached to the skull) would have some dramatic effect on the skull itself.. the evidence of unequal muscle tension at the base of the skull (is very tender on one side) would cause torsion of the skull sufficiently to distort the joint of the jaw? All of your symptoms.

When you get tired of treating the symptoms, perhaps you will decide to start treating the problem.. If you haven't seen a Doctor of Chiropractic yet, you have missed the boat. If you get relief from a massage, it should give you a clue to where the problem really is.

Is way past time for treating the problem.. it will only increase the inflammatory process if left unattended (as you have basically been doing for some time).

The migraine syndrome involves most of the cranial nerves.. those being inflamed will alter the autonomic nervous system and such imbalance of that system will directly have an effect on the areas those nerves supply. To name a few.... bright lights, noises in the ear, perhaps even alterred taste or smell, trouble swallowing.... on and on.. not to forget digestive distress and balance. Those little dizzy spells should tell you something is wrong.

Any way, you have a defined postural problem. One hip is higher than the other.. and further forward...your head tips to the side.... and you have much restriction of lateral motion of of the head.. even pain when you try to turn your head one way.... more than the other. Perhaps you even notice deep breathing is restricted.

Need I go on?

I have a chronic back pain and headaches. I take a muscle relaxant called Robaxin. I can take it up to 3 times a day if I have to. It does make me alittle tired but If I only take 1 i can still do things and stay awake.
My doctor gave me enough for a month daily use and refills so it is safe to use daily.
I try not to use it but if I do need it I know it's there and safe.
Talk to him about this medicine. You can also look it up online and read about it. Hope this helped

Magnesium. It's a wonderful all natural muscle relaxant. Buy it where they have vitamins.
