measure the WALL space if you want and 18" backsplash, measure the LENGTH that you want the backsplash to be, and multiply LENGHT TIMES WIDTH
18" = 1.5 FEET
if the backsplash is 10 feet long, then the square footage for the backsplash is 15
10*1.5=15.
I hope this answers the question, if not, maybe i am not understanding what you want to know

If the backsplash is on two walls, measure the length of each wall you want to tile, add the two lengths and multiply. in other words, you want to tile two walls, one is 5' long, the other is 6.5' long=11.5' of wall to be tiled TIMES 1.5' (height of tile) equals 17.25 sq ft.
